We've decided to try to eat as close to home as possible. Follow our adventures as we try to establish a garden, visit farms in our area and even give foraging a try!

Oink, oink
We are very fortunate to have a neighbour who works on a farm. He has offered us meat in the past but we have never had enough space in our tiny freezer to store it. We have just purchased a chest freezer and my neighbour let me know this morning that they have pork available. We don't eat a lot of meat, but having local, well fed meat is going to be nice.

Here We Go!
Welcome! We've decided to try and eat as close to home as we can. I've set up this blog to keep track of our adventures and to have a way to look back on what worked and what didn't.
Our plans are to work on our family vegetable garden, visit local farms and try foraging, all staying in our area on Georgian Bay.
In the past we've had a semi-successful and small veg garden in our backyard, gone berry and apple picking at local farms and found a wild blackberry patch.
The plan for February is to work on a garden lay-out, read up on composting and purchase seeds. We're hoping to have our 3 little ones involved in this family project, so I've also picked up some gardening books for kids from our library.
Stay tuned!
